Community awareness mapping of sites of defecation and eating places

In addition to inadequacy of health service delivery, Ethiopia is one of the most HIV/AIDS-affected countries in Africa where the AIDS pandemic has become the leading cause of mortality in the 15-49 age groups. Although the epidemic stabilized in urban areas and rates have subsequently declined, HIV/AIDS still poses a threat to achievement of the Millennium development goals and to national security

.

In both urban and rural Ethiopia the HIV/AIDS prevalence rate is significantly higher among women (2.6%) than among their men counterparts (1.7%). More specifically women along the major transport corridors, of Oromia and SNNPR, have turned to sex work as a survival strategy and majority have experienced sexually transmitted infection from time to time. Some groups of workers are at particular risk of HIV infection because of the nature and conditions of their work e.g. long distance drivers, merchants and commercial Sex workers. Either by business arrangement or coercion commercial sex workers provides sex as a sort of living. The spread of HIV/ AIDS could be reduced, if at risk mobile populations are well informed about the disease and take obvious steps to avoid it.
